In the past week, Geraldine Ferraro and Elizabeth Taylor— very different, yet each an icon in her own sphere— have deservedly dominated the front pages, or whatever space wasn’t taken by Libya and Japan. Very few of us could hope to attain the pinnacle of fame and glamor occupied by Liz, but many of us— including me— were inspired by Gerry’s example to aim much higher than we might have otherwise.
