I mulled over how the legality of the killing of bin Laden, the degradation of American civil liberties since 9/11 and the Nuremberg trials are interconnected. To defend ourselves in an endless war against a faceless enemy, we have abandoned principles long held dear and engaged in practices our parents and grandparents wouldn’t recognize.
Before Paige St. John left for New York to receive her Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting, I had the good fortune to interview her.
