Valentines and Rubies

I’m so thankful for a very special Valentine’s Day. It comes after a long weekend of wonderful, if harrowing, films at the Athena Film Festival. Stories of women who had the courage to make a difference in an unjust and often cruel world, uplifted, inspired and provoked me. I’ll be writing about a few of them soon.

(Update: Daisy Bates, Unsung Heroine of the Civil Rights Movement and “Black Butterflies”—the Poetry of Love and Anger)

In the meantime, like Dominique Browning, I offer you a Valentine gift: Rubies, from Jewels by George Balanchine.
